چکیده

This paper reports on the design and implementation of high efficiency, nonmetallic reflectors integrated on the sidewalls of micromachined cavities. Due to shadowing from deposition within a cavity, significant variation in the thicknesses of the dielectric thin films composing the reflectors are encountered when the layers are deposited by Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD). These gradients in thickness limit the performance of the reflector at the intended design wavelength. An optimized design procedure is described to maximize the performance of the reflector at the D1 absorption wavelength of 87Rb of 795 nm for use in micromachined atomic vapor cells. The reflector design is based on multiple shifted quarter wave Bragg reflectors in series, which extends the reflective bandwidth for increased robustness to film thickness gradients. The extended reflectance range maintains high reflection at the design wavelength despite greater than 70% decrease in film thickness across the reflector surface. The

Robust Optical Design of Angled Multilayer Dielectric Mirrors Optimized for Rubidium Vapor Cell Return Reflection

This paper reports on the design and implementation of thin film multilayer dielectric to form Bragg reflectors on the sidewalls of micromachined atomic cells. These gradients in thickness may limit optical performance of the reflector in atomic cel...

Cavity stabilization using the weak intrinsic birefringence of dielectric mirrors.

We demonstrate a universal cavity stabilization scheme that exploits the intrinsic birefringence of dielectric multilayer mirrors. Homodyne locking using weak mirror birefringence of even an empty Fabry-Perot-type cavity requires neither frequency modulation nor mixing and allows us to generate an error signal that is comparable to more widely used heterodyne stabilization schemes.

Octave spanning wedge dispersive mirrors with low dispersion oscillations.

A novel concept for octave spanning dispersive mirrors with low spectral dispersion oscillations is presented. The key element of the so-called wedge dispersive mirror is a slightly wedged layer which is coated on a specially optimized dispersive multilayer stack by a common sputter coating process. The group delay dispersion (GDD) of a pulse reflected on a wedge dispersive mirror is nearly fre...

Demonstration of a cavity coupler based on a resonant waveguide grating.

Thermal noise in multilayer optical coatings may not only limit the sensitivity of future gravitational wave detectors in their most sensitive frequency band but is also a major impediment for experiments that aim to reach the standard quantum limit or to cool mechanical systems to their quantum ground state. Here, we present the experimental realization and characterization of a cavity coupler...

Cavity-enhanced Absorption for Trace Gas Detection with Frontier

Detecting gases at low concentrations with FT-IR requires long pathlengths to increase absorption. The conventional approach employs a multi-pass White Cell where the light beam is reflected between two mirrors that are angled so that the beam emerges past one of the mirrors after a number of reflections, giving pathlengths up to tens of meters. In cavity-enhanced measurements, a highly collima...
